Felicity Slocombe

PhD Student
The University of Nottingham / Loughborough University

Felicity is a PhD student with a joint studentship with Loughborough University and the University of Nottingham, funded by the ESRC and Loughborough University. Her research focuses on identity maintenance in people living with dementia. One part of the research will use conversation analysis to look at identity maintenance and communication strategies in interaction between people living with dementia and others in various settings (mainly their own homes and in care homes). Another part of her research will analyse media messages surrounding dementia through a content analysis of newspaper articles. A sample of these articles will then form the main discussion points for focus groups that will hopefully involve people living with dementia and family members.

I am just beginning my PhD research and I am lucky that it features a secondary data set full of video files of people living with dementia interacting with family, friends, professional carers, and healthcare practitioners.
