Victoria is founder and Director of Growing Support a social enterprise tackling loneliness, social isolation and inactivity experienced by people with dementia. Growing Support’s volunteer team work alongside people living with dementia turning underused care home gardens into productive growing spaces and thriving hubs of community activity.

Gosh! This month’s exciting news is that Growing Support’s work enabling people with dementia to stay socially and physically active has received national recognition. We have been selected as one of the Observer’s 50 New Radicals for 2016.

Natural England have just published an interesting new report: ‘Is it nice outside?’.  The report investigates how engagement with nature and the great outdoors can be improved for the benefit of people living with dementia.

My co-founder and I launched Growing Support in 2013 after our own experiences of visiting older relatives living in care and finding them lonely, bored and frustrated despite being surrounded by people. They spent a lot of time sitting in doors doing nothing and with no one to talk to.
