Binturong

A binturong is twice as long:

                You might have thought

                It’s very short -

                In spite of that

                It’s round and fat

A binturong is twice as long.

A binturong will get it wrong:

                It goes to school

                And plays the fool

                And makes an ass

                In every class

A binturong will get it wrong.

A binturong emits a pong:

             Does not wash well

             No shower gel

             And give up hope

             Of using soap

A binturong emits a pong.

A binturong will sing a song:

             High in its tree

             Beautiful harmony

             You may not hear

             Lest you come near

A binturong will sing a song.

Erm...

I feel a need to comment here... but where to start? Is it hinting at multi-sensory perception or identity...? Can we see things from Binturong's perspective?

Or is Tom hinting that creativity (or even free association) is part of academic life (as well as clinical or any other role)?

It was a real life, I think, those days
Of fairgrounds, brandy-snaps and hook-a-duck,
Singing on waltzers, we were children in love
With sugared lips and clasping foxglove bouquets...

Is all I ask

A cup of tea

Is all I want

A cup of tea

Is all I need

That cup of tea
