QCF Qualifications in Dementia

Within the current political agenda there is a drive to improve support for people with dementia and their carers. In response to this, Skills For Care have developed some specific dementia qualifications within the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF).

There are now three sizes of qualification:

  • Award (1–12 credits)
  • Certificate (13–36 credits)
  • Diploma (above 36 credits)

The type of qualification is reflective of its size and not the level of difficulty. So, an 'Award' for example could be from level 1 – level 8.

There are level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grades A* – C) and level 3 (equivalent to A level) awards available in 'Awareness of Dementia', for those who wish to gain knowledge about dementia but are not in a position to demonstrate competence.

The level 2 and 3 Certificates in Dementia Care are for those working with people with dementia and give workers the ability to demonstrate competence in order to gain an accredited qualification.

More information about these qualifications can be found at Skills for Care.

The Skills for Care Skills Selector gives a fuller understanding of the Qualification and Credit Framework. It also enables you to build qualifications from individual units that are suited to you. There is a facility that allows you to search for specific terms such as 'dementia'.
